Mark your calendars and RSVP for this community singing experience on Saturday, September 14, beginning at 10 a.m.
As part of our congregations focus on “The Way of Love,” St. Columba’s Singers will begin their year experiencing musical means that energize us towards meaningful, holistic spiritual practice. We have invited community-builder and musician Jack Barben to lead us, and we are inviting the whole congregation to see how our practice of Christianity might be formed through music.
Jack has been a professional musician and teacher of music to children and adults for over twenty years. He has trained as a classical musician and is familiar with a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz, pop, folk, Hindustani classical, and West African drumming.
Before departing for a time of intense spiritual study and formation at the Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Kathmandu, Nepal, Jack was most recently the music director at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Renton. He now lives in San Diego where he will be teaching music full-time and is coming here to Washington to be with us for this event.
Jack writes, “Music continues to be for me a primary means of self-expression, connecting with myself and opening up to the world. I try to share that passion with everyone whether I’m performing or teaching. This event will be a chance for us to sing songs together that are fun, inspiring, beautiful, connecting, and immediately successful!"
