Hello St. Columba’s
Elaine Ogden here, your Children, Youth, and Family Minister! It’s been a while since I’ve written to you, and you may have noticed I’ve been a little absent the past month or so. A combination of illness, family stuff, and a Youth Retreat kept me from church these past few weeks. I can’t wait to get back to it and be with all of you again, but in the mean time I wanted to share some upcoming things with you and let you know what’s happening for the 18 and under crowd as well as your families.
First thing is Godly Play, over the summer we tried out Summer Kid’s Club at 10am. For the school year, we’re going to switch to offering Godly Play during the 11am service, this service is the one more often attended by families with elementary aged children. We’ve already got the stories all planned out, so all we need now are kids and volunteers! If you’ve got kiddos interested in a fun open-ended children’s program come to the 11 o’clock. As for volunteers, please contact me at wonder@stcolumbakent.org . I’m looking for people able to make 1 hour commitment once a month, we need both storytellers and helpers, so there should be a role that fits your comfort level.
Then, later this month, we're doing a community art project, September 26th, at 10am and after the 11am Service, people of all ages are invited to paint tiles for the memorial garden. The idea is that each person makes unique contribution to our back garden so it's a reflection of our community. So people young and old, show up for that!
Additionally, with October coming up, we have lots of fun things in the works. First, on October 3rd, we have the Blessing of the Animals in celebration of St. Francis Day. So everyone is invited to bring your pets, pictures of pets, or an item belonging to your pet to church with you on October 3rd to be blessed during the service. Second, Mother Alissa returns in October! And we’re having a party!! It will be October 17th, after the services. And third will be our annual Halloween liturgy, on October 30th this year!
And finally, it’s time to get our teens back together, so those in 6-12th grade are invited to monthly get togethers after church, those save the dates are October 10th, November 7th, and December 5th. If we’re able to gather our youth up again, we could also return to weekly programming, so if you have a youth interested in meeting more regularly, please shoot me an email.
Anyways, that’s all I have for you today. I can’t wait to get back to church next week and see everyone! It should be a fun fall for all involved!
