# From The... - Letters to the Congregation

From the Vicar: Join me in welcoming Lacey Brown THIS Sunday!
Dear One’s of St. C’s,
This Sunday is Lacey’s first Sunday with us and I am hoping we can give her a big St. Columba’s welcome!! Almost all the musicians will be present at the 11am and it’s going to sound so good!
Lacey has a huge heart for church music and how it can be relevant and meaningful. She has been listening, creating, and pouring her heart into church music for over 20 years. I feel so honored that she is wanting to discern with us if she is a good fit for our congregation.
We are in transition since Susan moved and transitions are often filled with two things - anxiety and possibility. Often, because of the discomfort of transition we try to move quickly through it and when we do this, we can miss all the possibility that it holds. When Susan told me she was moving, at first I felt anxiety. This is such a unique Episcopal Congregation and I knew not any traditional Episcopal Music Director would be a good fit. But then I wondered, “what if instead of being filled with anxiety and worry, I could be filled with hope and possibility?” Although, I still have sadness and grief around Susan leaving, I have also found myself very hopeful and excited about what this next chapter around music will hold for our community.
So, now we are entering a time of mutual discernment with Lacey, which means that we didn’t move quickly out of transition, but it also means we are able to leave lots of room for a new possibility. I am asking everyone in the community to take the first month that Lacey is with us to just enjoy what this new possibility might hold. And then a month or two in we can start really coming together and wondering if this new possibility fits our community. I will be listening deeply and will create opportunities for people to share their thoughts in the next month or two. Let us join with Lacey and with open hearts and minds, to discern if this is a good fit for our community.
I hope to see you on Sunday!!
Meghan
