From the Vicar: What's Next with Dr. George

Dear One’s of St. C’s,

As I have mentioned, I received a grant with Dr. George to explore what comes next after the two Feminism classes that some members of our community have participated in.  As a part of this grant there is one more opportunity for people to take one of the two classes.  See the separate blog entry, “Two Feminism Class Offerings” for more information.

In 2025 we will explore with Dr. George what comes next for our community when it comes to centering the marginalized, exploring our own participation in these systems of oppression, and standing up for justice in our country and in our world.

We will have two opportunities in March to learn from Dr. George.  We will meet (in-person and on zoom) on March 5th at 7pm, after the Ash Wednesday Service @6pm. Soup will be available - feel free to bring bread or any additions to share. During this session Dr. George will have pre-recorded a video teaching about the significance of understanding what our community’s theory of change is.  Dr. George and I have come up with a framework for the theory of change that we will use to guide us in how we will work towards change in our community with the goal of bringing about a more just world.  This is the tilling of the soil work for the Kingdom of God to grow all-around us. This session will be focused on Dr. George and I presenting our theory of change.

The second opportunity in March will be on March 12th at 7pm (in-person and on zoom). Soup will be available - feel free to bring bread or any additions to share.  This session Dr. George will pre-record a video and do a teaching on stories of change.  These stories will teach us about people in the past who have resisted unjust treatment and unjust laws and made real change that we still feel the impact of today.  The second half of our time we will be discussing what sort of change we want to focus on in 2025.  This could be immigrant/refugee rights, disability rights, queer rights, housing rights, food insecurity, women’s rights, etc.

Once we have identified a couple areas of focus we will find a time to meet with Dr. George in April after a 11am service where will zoom in Dr. George live and have a deeper discussion all together about next steps.

I love that Wednesday evening is becoming a time to connect through prayer, creativity, play, learning, and activism.  All of these different actions help us to access and harness our power together.  Keep moving towards each other, keep praying, keep creating, keep learning, and keep figuring out how to take care of another.  It is when we come together that we discover how powerful we truly are connected to God and to one another.

I am filled with gratitude to do this work with all of you!

Meghan
